Magadino Plain

After travelling through the Ceneri train tunnel, passengers see on the left impressive views of the vast Magadino Plain extending from Lake Maggiore to Bellinzona, capital of Canton Ticino. To the left and north of the lake, good visibility permits views of Locarno and the Maggia Delta. The Magadino Plain derives its name from the municipality of Magadino at the south-eastern end of Lake Maggiore. Once a marshland, the area is today a fertile and important agricultural region where rice and other crops are grown.
