Brusio Circular Viaduct

No other landmark along the Bernina line is as striking as the Brusio Circular Viaduct. This remarkable structure was designed to overcome great heights over short distances on the route from St. Moritz to Tirano (Italy). Tunnels were kept to a minimum to ensure unimpeded views of the stunning scenery. Above Brusio, the Rhaetian Railway overcomes an entire altitude level in a double loop of around 100 metres' length. The open stretch across the viaduct allows passengers to appreciate fully this remarkable feat of railway engineering.
